The Penguins fell three points behind Washington for first place in the Metropolitan Division following the Capitals win over the Hurricanes Tuesday. Pittsburgh has 95 points in 77 games. With the Islanders losing to Columbus 4-0, the Pens remain tied with New York for second place in the Metro Division.
On the injury front, coach Mike Sullivan said Olli Maatta will be a game-time decision on Friday night against the Predators. Maatta told reporters he is ready to go. Evgeni Malkin and Chad Ruhwedel skated yesterday and are day-to-day. Sullivan said Kris Letang is “status quo”, which would make him day-to-day. There was no update on Zach Aston-Reese.
The Penguins play four of their final five games at PPG Paints Arena.
