The third-seed IUP women’s team bused from Indiana to Columbus yesterday and will practice today as they get set to open up the 2019 NCAA Division II Elite Eight tomorrow against 6th-seeded Azusa Pacific in Columbus, Ohio. The Crimson Hawks are 29-3 and the Cougars come into the game at 28-5.
Tipoff at Ohio Dominican University’s Alumni Hall in Columbus is noon on Tuesday. The Crimson Hawks advanced to the Elite Eight with a 68-60 win over rival Cal U in the Atlantic Region Championship. The Cougars won the West Region by defeating Alaska Anchorage 65-63 on a buzzer beater.
After starting the year 3-3, Azusa Pacific won 14 straight games and finished with a 21-1 league record.
The Cougars score a lot of points. They topped 80 points 11 times during their 14-game win streak, breaking 90 three times. They are also very tall, with six players six-feet tall or taller. They lead Division II with 6.7 blocks per game. Laura Pranger is 7th with 3.45 per game.
