Robert M. Overdorff, 86, of Indiana, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Scenery Hill Manor.
A son of the late Virgil and Evelyn Davis Overdorff, he was born June 13, 1932, in Brush Valley.
Mr. Overdorff was a graduate of Brush Valley High School and served in the U.S. Army. In 1973, Bob and his late brother, W. Dean Overdorff purchased The Park Press. For over 30 years, Bob served on the White Township Municipal Authority and the Indiana Area Recreation and Parks Commission. He was also a longtime chairman of the board of supervisors at White Township. Bob was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a former member of the Indiana Home Builders Association and United Commercial Travelers. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed hunting and working around the yard.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce Miller Overdorff, of Indiana; three children: Bruce Overdorff and wife Jackie, of Indiana; Sherry L. Shank, of Marion Center; and Wendy G. Drew and husband Thomas, of Greer, SC; six grandchildren: Amanda Strittmatter and husband Patrick; Ashley Shank, Alexis Shank, Carly Drew and partner Christopher Campbell; Eric Drew and partner Osiris Martinez Guzman; and Gregory Drew and wife Yukun; two brothers: Ray Overdorff and wife Carol, of Duncansville; and Denny Overdorff and wife Penny, of Cherry Tree; two sisters: Rita Gorman and husband George, of Palmyra, VA; and Carolyn Williams and husband Stephen, of Coopersburg; two sisters-in-law: Louise Overdorff, of Brush Valley and Nancy Overdorff, of Brush Valley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Ronald Overdorff and W. Dean Overdorff.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William Blair officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
The observance of graveside military honors will be accorded by the members of Indiana V.F.W. Post 1989.
