Leaders of the Republican Party in the 41st Senatorial District will gather today to select their candidate for the special election for Senator Don White’s seat.
Tonight’s meeting will be held in Ford City at the Lenape Heights Golf Course starting at 6:00 PM. The candidates that party leaders will select from include White’s former chief of staff Joe Pittman and Center Township resident George Karpacs. The third candidate, Ross Walker III has reportedly dropped out of the race and is giving his support to Pittman.
Earlier this week, Democratic party officials chose IUP Sociology Professor Susan Boser as their candidate for White’s seat over Indiana restaurateur Tony DiLoretto. Boser ran for U.S. Congress in 2018 and lost to Representative Glenn Thompson in the new 15th Congressional District.
The special election to fill White’s seat for the remainder of the term will be held May 21st during the statewide primary election. Whoever wins will fill the seat until the end of 2020. The seat will be up for election to a normal four-year term next year.
