State Police are saying that they are adopting a zero tolerance policy when it comes to their coverage of “IUPatty’s” this weekend.
State police are increasing their efforts during the unsanctioned celebrations that are expected to start tomorrow night. They are getting assistance from the Mounted Patrol Unit and the PSP Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement. Additional department resources, troopers and liquor enforcement officers will be working alongside other law enforcement officers to help keep the peace during the weekend. Efforts will include a DUI checkpoint, extra roving patrols and aggressive traffic enforcement activities focused on a zero-tolerance approach.
As the Mounted Unit will be a part of enforcement efforts state police remind everyone that it is illegal for anyone to “willfully or maliciously taunt, torment, tease, beat, kick or strike a police animal.” The crime is considered to be a third degree felony.
Last year during IUPatty’s, state police made 145 arrests and investigated 367 traffic incidents.
Residents are urged to call 911 to report any suspicious or criminal activity.
