LaRue A. Kensey, 79, of Clymer (Penn Run), went to meet Jesus Christ, our Lord, Monday, March 18, 2019, at The Fountains in Indiana.
A daughter of the late Milton R. and Minnie F. Clark Brown, she was born Sept. 14, 1939, in Indiana.
LaRue was a graduate of Indiana High School and received a degree in elementary education and a master’s equivalency from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Like her mother, teaching was her passion, her life and her love. She spent 28 years as an elementary education teacher, most of those as a fourth-grade grade science teacher in the Penns Manor School District.
Nothing made LaRue happier than when she would see children excited about a topic being discussed, wanting to learn more, and seeing their eyes light up. During the many years her students saw incubated quail eggs hatch, seeds sprout and grow into something beautiful, fish, mice, tadpoles, frogs or even snakes grow from something so small into something bigger. There were so many other amazing things that filled the classroom with awe and delight in front of the ever-watching eyes of curious fourth-graders.
LaRue was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love and the beauty and peace that would await her after her passing. She lived her life giving of herself to others, and her spirit and legacy will live on in so many of us who have benefited from her warmth, kindness, concern and love that she bestowed upon all those who touched her in any manner.
LaRue embraced life as well. She loved being outdoors, having lived on a farm for the last 50-plus years. She was an avid reader and a member of the Penns Manor Retired Book Club and the Pennsylvania State Education Association. She loved her family and faithfully cared for family and friends through delicious cooking/baking from scratch – including cake decorating. She loved going to the beach, scrapbooking, sewing, crafts, gardening and canning.
LaRue is survived by four children: Bonnie L. Carroll and husband Steven, of Maryland; Lenard M. Kensey, of Penn Run; Lisa N. Marshall and husband Robert, of Penn Run; and Linda A. Stupic and husband Mark, of Penn Run; daughter-in-law, Lynn Kensey; eight grandchildren: Nicole Hillard, Brent Kensey, Lee Kensey, Lauren Twigg, Alyssia Stewart, Parker Stupic, Annette Marshall and Emilie Stupic; six great-grandchildren: Madalyn, Austin, Drew, Alaina, Alivia and Aurora; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Kensey; a son, Leon W. Kensey; two grandchildren: Christopher Stupic and Ben Bittner; a brother, Milton Brown; and a sister, Helen Hovis.
LaRue was truly an amazing wife, having been married for 58 years. She was a wonderful woman that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Our “Mama,” as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, was a mom, daughter, grandmother and a baker of buns like no other could be.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. George Nagel officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please be kind to someone. Call a friend or relative you haven’t reached out to recently. Visit a shut-in or nursing home resident. All acts of kindness are appreciated.
