An Indiana County man died yesterday in an accident in Lawrence County.
60-year-old Leonard Clair Long Jr. of Glen Campbell was killed when a large steel pipe fell from a truck at a gas/oil well site on Mt. Jackson Road in North Beaver Township, near the town of Enon Valley.
State police say Long was standing next to a truck at about 11:15 AM, helping to load large sections of pipes and drilling equipment when the load became unstable and a pipe fell from the truck and struck him. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, Long was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lawrence County deputy coroner.
Long was working for Ziegenfuss Drilling, which is based in New Jersey. The well site is operated by Hilcorp Energy of New Castle.
