Leaders of the Democratic Party in the 41st District yesterday selected Susan Boser as their candidate in the special election for the Senate seat vacated by the retirement of Senator Don White last month.
Meeting at the West Kittanning Fire Hall, the committee chose the 62-year-old IUP professor over Indiana restaurant owner Tony DiLoreto. On her Facebook page later in the day, Boser thanked the committee members and said she and her team “are ready to hit the ground running and get to work for the 41st District.” A sociology professor at IUP, Boser ran for Congress last fall and lost to Representative G. Glenn Thompson in the new 15th Congressional District.
Republicans plan to meet on Thursday at the Lenape Heights Golf Resort to select their candidate. So far, those seeking the nomination include White’s former chief of staff, Joe Pittman, Center Township resident George Karpacs, Ross Walker III, a New Kensington funeral home operator.
The special election to fill the remainder of White’s term will be held on May 21st, coinciding with the state’s Primary election. The term expires at the end of 2020, meaning the seat will be up for election again next year.
