With St. Patrick’s Day falling on a weekend this year, state police have issued a warning that they will have extra traffic and DUI enforcement in action starting today and through Sunday. Aggressive traffic enforcement activities focused on a “zero tolerance” approach will target all neighborhood and highway criminal activity and traffic violations.
Along with the advisory for this weekend, the state police also reported the traffic statistics for the first two months of the year, showing a total of 78 arrests for diving under the influence, two highway fatalities (both in February), 194 crashes overall in which 45 other people were injured, and 1,699 traffic citations written, with an increase of more than 500 in February over January’s total.
