It’s Gameday for the IUP women as the NCAA Division Two Atlantic Regional gets underway at Glenville State in West Virginia.
Third seed IUP is 26-3 and has the first game of four today, tipping off at 12 noon against Bowie State, which is the sixth seed and is 22-5. IUP swept Bowie State last year in three games, including a 75-60 win in the Atlantic Regional championship game. The Crimson Hawks are 5-4 in NCAA playoff games under Coach Tom McConnell, including a 4-1 run that ended in the Final Four last year.
You’ll hear the IUP women in action against Bowie State starting with Jack Benedict’s pregame at 11:30 on 92.5 FM, U92, and the U92 Sportschannel.
The IUP men are the top seed and host team in the men’s Atlantic Regional tournament. The Crimson Hawks are 29-2 and are making their 16th all-time appearance in the NCAA tournament, including 9 of the last 11 seasons under Coach Joe Lombardi. IUP takes on 8th seed West Chester, whom the Hawks defeated in the PSAC playoffs last week. The other first round matchups include #4 Mercyhurst vs. #5 Fairmont State, #2 West Liberty vs. #7 East Stroudsburg and #3 Virginia State vs. #6 Notre Dame (Ohio).
The Atlantic Region Championships will consist of seven games played at the KCAC. The four first round games are scheduled for tomorrow with the semifinals on Sunday evening. The Atlantic Region Championship will be played Tuesday, March 19 with the winner advancing to the Elite Eight in Evansville, Indiana.
All tickets at the KCAC are general admission only with no reserved seating this weekend. Tickets are $12 and get you all of the games played on each day. Kids aged 3 to 18, seniors 65 and older, and IUP students will pay $7 per ticket.
