The Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went down by six-tenths of a percentage point to 4.3 percent.
That rate ties Indiana County with four other counties for the 43rd lowest unemployment rate among the state’s 67 counties. The lowest unemployment rate in the state is in Adams and Chester counties, who have 2.8 percent each. The highest unemployment rate is 5.6 percent in Forest County.
As far as the surrounding counties go, both Westmoreland and Jefferson Counties tied with 3.8% each, Armstrong County has a 4.1 percent unemployment rate, Clearfield ties Indiana at 4.3 percent, and Cambria has the highest unemployment rate in the area at 4.5 percent.
As expected, non-farm jobs decreased by 1,900 jobs to 30,800. Due to the winter break at IUP, government had the highest decrease in jobs over the month of January.
