9:00 AM UPDATE: State police have released more information on the crash. Police say an un-named 26-year-old man from Altoona was driving the box truck on Route 422 near Cunningham Road when the truck crossed the center line and collided with a 2018 Ford Fiesta driven by a 55-year-old Shelocta man. The Shelocta man was killed as a result of the crash. The two collided head-on and both vehicles took on moderate to severe damage. The names have not been released as they are awaiting notification of the next of kin.
8:00 AM UPDATE: State Police from the Indiana Barracks have confirmed that one person has died in this morning’s crash on Route 422 in Armstrong Township. Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman, Jr. has not released any of the details on the identity of the victim.
Traffic on Route 422 between Parkwood Road and Route 210 is still closed in both directions as of 8:00 AM, but PennDOT reports that one lane will re-open within the hour.
WHAT WE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED
Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman, Jr. was called to the scene of a crash on Route 422 in Armstrong Township early this morning.
Indiana County 911 reports that the Indiana Fire Association, State Police and Citizen’s Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene of the crash on Cunningham Road at 3:55 AM. According to scanner reports, a car and a box truck were involved in the crash, and the driver of the car was unresponsive. Emergency crews had to cut open the car to extricate that person.
All lanes of 422 between Cunningham Road and Poulos Road are closed at this time and are expected to remain closed for an extended period of time as crews investigate and clean the crash scene.
