The Penguins led by two goals with under four minutes to play in Saturday night’s Stadium Series game in a steady rain in Philadelphia, but the Flyers tied the game at 3-3 on goals by James Van Riemsdyk and Jakub Voracek, Voracek’s bad-angle shot eluding Matt Murray to tie the game with 19.7 seconds left. Then Claude Giroux scored the game-winner in overtime as the Flyers stole one from the Pens, 4-3.
The news was even worse for Pittsburgh, which lost its top two defensemen, Brian Dumoulin (concussion) and Kris Letang (upper body) in the first period. They played the rest of the game with only four defensemen.
Pittsburgh is tied with Carolina for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
