The first candidate to replace returning State Senator Don White has announced his candidacy for the 41st Senatorial District. Indiana restaurant owner Tony DeLoreto says he will seek the Democratic Party Primary nomination, saying that it took a lot of work and dedication that made him a success in business and he is “willing to put in the time and effort to…do the same as a State Senator.”
DeLoreto is a U.S. Navy veteran and IUP graduate, and the owner along with his wife of Spaghetti Benders in downtown Indiana. He says he wants to be a leader that will make his family and community proud.
Senator White announced last month that he will retire from the Senate at the end of this month.
The state has not yet announced a special election, but it’s expected that Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman will schedule it to run alongside the spring primary, with each party to nominate its candidates to serve the remainder of White’s term. It expires in 2020, so the new senator will serve just over a year before the election of 2020.
Tony DeLoreto will be a guest on Indiana In the Morning on WCCS tomorrow at 8:10 AM.
