A Derry man who was involved in a collision with a motorcycle last fall has now been charged with driving under the influence after lab results revealed metabolites which indicate that he was under the influence of drugs.
On October 3rd, 38-year-old Orrin William Burbank was driving northbound on Route 217 in Derry Township when his car crossed the double line and struck a southbound motorcycle operated by 55-year-old Timothy Mock of Blairsville, who was thrown about fifteen feet off the bike and landed on the highway. Mock suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown from the scene to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
State police say Burbank was incapable of driving safely and agreed to a chemical blood test at Excela Latrobe. He was later released to the custody of his sister.
The test results show metabolites of Schedule 1 drugs. Metabolites are the byproducts of drugs that are found in the bloodstream. Schedule 1 drugs, according to Pennsylvania law, include heroin, marijuana, ecstasy, and LSD.
