After a gas well lost pressure last month at the Beaver Run Reservoir, CNX Resources has suspended fracking operations at the well and the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County asked the IUP students who monitor the water quality for an extra water sample. That sample has been taken and the results should be back before the end of the week.
In a public statement, CNX said there was “no immediate impact” to the local community or environment and surveillance so far has not noted any changes in the water quality.
The well in question is part of the Shaw 1G well, which was completed on January 5th but fracking was halted the next day when the “pressure anomaly” was noted.
IUP has been monitoring the water at the reservoir for the last eight years under a contract with the Authority. There has never been a change in water quality related to the 45 Marcellus Shale wells and seven Utica Shale wells on the property. The Shaw pad is a Utica site.
The Beaver Run Reservoir serves more than 400,000 people in five counties, including Conemaugh Township and Saltsburg Borough in Indiana County.
