It’s down to business for the state legislature in Harrisburg today, with a busy schedule.
That means the first committee meetings for new State Representative Jim Struzzi. Two of the committees of which he is a member meet today. One week before the opening of state budget hearings, the House Appropriations Committee begins what could be three days of meetings. The Appropriations Committee is deeply involved in the state budget process.
Struzzi is also a member of the House Insurance Committee, which is taking up the issue of “surprise” or “balance” billing. That’s when a patient is treated at an in-network hospital by an out-of-network doctor and later receives a bill for the difference between what the insurance company pays and the out-of-network doctor’s fees. The Insurance Committee will meet today and tomorrow, and is scheduled to take testimony from the nonprofit FAIR Health, an organization that manages the nation’s largest database of privately billed health insurance claims.
