Temperatures are expected to descend quickly today into tonight and it is expected to create extremely frigid conditions.
The National Weather Service is issuing a Wind Chill Warning starting at 1:00 AM on Wednesday, and remains in effect until Friday at 11:00 AM. This means that the combination of low temperatures and windy conditions can make the bitter cold feel even colder. With wind chills expected to be around 20 below zero, there are dangers of frostbite and hypothermia, and that could mean severe damage or death.
The National Weather service advises that if you do have to go out in the cold weather:
- Stay dry, as wet clothing takes heat out of your body faster.
- Also, stay covered with a hat, scarf and gloves or mittens.
- And dress in loose, light and comfortable layers. The layers will help trap the warm air in the coats and keep you warmer.
We also advise you to check on any pets that are kept outside, as Libre’s law is in full effect. This means that pets should be not be tied outdoors for more than 30 minutes when the temperature goes below 32 degrees. You must also have access to sanitary shelter and drinkable water.
