It was great to have the Pirates back in Indiana last week. Renda Broadcasting’s Pirates Caravan turned out to be a huge success. I think it’s pretty safe to say that everyone who came to the KCAC had a good time. The Pirates and their players couldn’t have been nicer to all the fans. We just need to make sure they make Indiana a permanent stop in the future.
* I also attended PirateFest at PNC Park over the weekend. There was a large turnout for this annual event. I sat in on the question and answer period with the team’s broadcasters and it was a fun filled session. The session with team management wasn’t quite the same. The first question was a loaded one, asking why the team doesn’t spend any money and if they are only out to make money instead of competing for a championship. Many in the room applauded. Fans and media members also questioned why team owner Bob Nutting didn’t attend. He was reportedly out of town on business. Overall it was a nice event, but one that also included some serious questions from the team’s fans.
* The latest Antonio Brown antic had him appearing in a San Francisco 49ers uniform with legendary Niners star Jerry Rice. If this doesn’t tell you that Brown wants to leave the Steelers nothing does. And it’s time the Steelers cut the cord and send Brown packing. This world class talent is also a world class idiot. He’s worn out his welcome in Pittsburgh and has become a joke. Let him go!
* Hopefully the Pens enjoyed their week off, because when they get back to work it will be a sprint toward the playoffs. The Pens should make the post-season, but it’s certainly not a guarantee at this point. They need to come out refreshed and refocused. This is when they need to make their move.
* I couldn’t care less about the current versions of the NFL’s Pro Bowl and the NHL’s All Star Games. Both have become a joke. I missed the NHL All Star Game and only caught a few minutes of the Pro Bowl, even though I love both sports and have attended three NHL All Star Games in my time. These days, neither game is worth anything.
* The IUP basketball teams continue to roll. The men are now 17-1 and the women are 16-1. Both teams were impressive in their road wins at Clarion over the weekend. I’m really looking forward to next month when these two teams compete in their conference tournaments and advance to the NCAA tournament. Both have a chance to go a long way.
