Indiana County District Attorney Pat Dougherty will join Indiana Area School District officials and others tonight to conduct a program entitled “Vaping-Family Community Educational Training”. It’s scheduled to take place at the Indiana Junior High School starting at 6 o’clock.
The D.A. says it will be a fast-paced program, lasting only an hour, about the dangers and risks of vaping, and how easily children are getting their hands on e-cigarettes. Vaping has become a new top issue at area schools and on school buses, and Dougherty says it is trending upwards. For example he says the assistant principal at the Indiana Senior High School says he has a large box of vaping materials seized from students.
The school district says vaping is increasing among the student population at an alarming rate, and parents may be surprised not only by what is available for children to inhale, but also by how young some students are when they begin to use vaping products.
Dougherty says they will also touch on other topics as well tonight, including social media use, threats, and sexting. The program is a collaboration between the school district, the D.A.’s office, and the Indiana Armstrong, Clarion Drug & Alcohol Commission.
