The IUP basketball teams swept a doubleheader at Clarion yesterday. The women scored 26 consecutive points on the way to a 73-51 win, with Carolyn Appleby scoring 17 points and Brittany Robinson adding 16.
IUP held just a 39-35 lead midway through the third quarter, but then scored the game’s next 26 points during a 7:21 span into the fourth quarter to take control of the contest. The Crimson Hawks shot nearly 52 percent from the floor and turned the ball over just seven times on the afternoon.

The men took their game, 89-53 behind 23 points by Dante Lombardi and 16 by Cobo Diaz. Four Crimson Hawks reached double-figures in scoring, with Willem Brandwijk scoring 11 and Malik Miller 10. IUP hit five 3-pointers by five different players during a 19-4 first-half run, capped by one of three triples on the day by Diaz.
Dante Lombardi had two assists, increasing his career total to 504, and putting him just eight assists shy of tying Devante Chance for first in IUP history.
Both IUP teams are on the road on Wednesday for a doubleheader at Seton Hill.
