It’s back to business for the state General Assembly, and that means the first day of the new session for newly-elected State Representative Jim Struzzi.
The freshman legislator was sworn into office on New Year’s Day, and one of the first orders of business this week will be committee assignments. Struzzi told Indiana In the Morning on WCCS that he’s anxious to hear where he ends up. He’s hoping they are committees that take advantage of his expertise. His career has included stints at both PennDOT and the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce.
While the legislature always works at its own pace, often more slowly than many would like, Struzzi says he wants to get working right away on one of his priorities, replacing school property taxes with revenues that will fund education. “Moving forward, probably tax elimination, making sure that our school districts are properly funded is the top priority. We have to make sure that we’re taking care of our young people. Our children are our future and we want to make sure that they get the best education they can, but we have to fund education intelligently. we have to make sure that the budget is balanced. We can’t put a budget out there that exceeds expected revenues.”
Today’s opening session is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
