The Center Township Supervisors met last night for their reorganization and regular meetings.
The board of supervisors voted to retain Dave “Butch” Smyers as the board president, with James Gatske appointed the vice chairman. During the regular meeting that followed, the supervisors heard from John Barna about the condition of a house on 9th Street in Lucernemines, where the windows have been broken out and high weeds have been seen. Smyers said that they were able to talk with the property owner, who lives out of the area, and said that come spring, there will be some work done. At the very least, the windows will be boarded up, garbage on the property will be picked up, and the weeds will be cut down.
Also discussed were the recent gas fracking operations on Rhine Road at the Jones Well pad. XTO energy has told the township that the bulk of the heavy truck traffic is done, but there will be some other trucks coming through the area. Any repairs that need to be done will be done soon by XTO energy.
