Harold A. “Smokey” Burkett, 85, of Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
A son of the late Bruce Burkett and Dollie Varner Burkett Lunger, he was born July 9, 1933, in Punxsutawney.
Mr. Burkett served in the Merchant Marines and had been a truck driver for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Smokey enjoyed watching old western movies, fishing and working on vehicles.
He is survived by two daughters: Candace Rishell and husband Richard, of Punxsutawney; and Tammy L. Kephart and Kevin Kephart, of Rossiter; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia M. Blystone Burkett; a brother, Robert Burkett and a grandchild.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana. In accordance with Smokey’s wishes there will not be a funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to Robinson-Lytle, Inc., 36 N. 7th Street, Indiana, PA 15701, to help cover the funeral costs.
