The Indiana School Board met last night and approved funding for a new permanent fence at Kennedy King Field for the softball team.
The fencing is needed as there is no permanent fence at the field, and the team has used a plastic temporary “snow fence” for their outfield wall, and according to their head coach Harold Wilson, it posed a safety hazard for anyone playing the outfield. Coach Wilson said that the new fence will eliminate those hazards.
Jim Carloni, a parent of one of the players said that the funding from the district is the final piece of the funding puzzle for the fence, as they already have funding coming from White Township. The softball team has performed some fundraising on their own. Each entitiy will cover 1/3rds of the cost of the fence.
In other business, a motion to have armed security at each of the four elementary buildings, as that motion failed to gain a second. The board also rejected a proposal for SAT Tutoring to be done by two district teachers due to the cost of the program. Superintendent Michael Vukovich said that they will consider other SAT prep options that are at a lesser cost to the district.
