State police were at the Homer-Center High School on Thursday helping the school’s Threat Assessment Team investigate an alleged terroristic threat.
In a letter sent to parents of high school students from Principal Jody Rainey, the investigation happened Thursday after a student told a teacher about a conversation in which another student was discussing the best way to “perpetrate an act of terror at the school that would have the greatest impact on students and staff”. State police were called to the school as the investigation by the Threat Assessment Team got underway, and troopers also requested their Mobile Crisis Unit to respond to the school to assess the student who made the threat. Rainey said that police will cite that student, and the Mobile Crisis report and recommendations will be provided to the school and the student’s family.
Rainey added that at no time were students or staff in harm’s way, and Rainey thanked the student for having the courage to inform the teacher of the alleged threat, and the teacher for working quickly to inform the school’s Threat Assessment Team.
