Final enrollment numbers are in for the State System of Higher Education universities, and they show a major drop in the student population, which has fallen below 100,000 (to 98,094) for the first time since 2001.
Twelve of the fourteen universities saw enrollment declines across all platforms, including IUP. The school most in jeopardy continues to be Cheyney, which now has only 469 students, down by 37.9 percent from last year’s 755.
In order, the schools that saw the largest enrollment declines by percentage are:
- Cheyney (-37.9%)
- Mansfield (-13.7%)
- Edinboro (-13.3%)
- Lock Haven (-10/5%)
- IUP (-8%)
- Clarion (-6.8%)
- California (-6.1%)
- East Stroudsburg (-4.7%)
- Bloomsburg (-3.9%)
- Shippensburg (-2.6%)
- Slippery Rock (-.8%)
- Kutztown (-.2%)
Two schools saw increases:
- Millersville (+.4%)
- West Chester (+1.2%)
IUP’s enrollment is off by 25 percent since 2010. Figuring all of the different student sectors, there are 11,325 students taking classes at IUP this fall.
