House Majority Leader Dave Reed gave his farewell address to the State House in Harrisburg yesterday.
Taking the House Speaker’s podium, Reed addressed the state house to say thank you to several people. During his speech, Reed remembered how impressed he was with the Capitol building itself. He first saw the Capitol building as a student on a field trip. When he was an intern for the Tom Wolf administration, he would later take a bus to the entrance on Third Street so he could walk up the steps every morning and look up towards the flag and the statue of Lady Commonwealth at the top of the building, which was a habit he continued to do every day in office.
Reed also discussed how partisan politics have become in his sixteen year political career, and said that today’s political climate has become very aggressive. He said that a “pragmatic” individual like himself would not be in the right mindset to be a “partisan legislative leader”, adding that the political scene today has become very mean and if people took the time, they would find that there’s more to unite the citizens than divide them.
Reed’s last official day in office will be November 30th. Reed will talk with us later this morning on Indiana in the Morning on WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM to discuss his future plans after our 7:00 news.
