Governor Tom Wolf signed into law yesterday a bill that would prohibit those convicted of misdemeanor crimes connected with domestic violence or those who have protection from abuse orders filed against them from having guns.
Under the new law, someone with a PFA filed against them turn over a firearm to a family member or friend is now no longer allowed. The law requires that the gun would be handed over to a lawyer, the police or to a gun dealer.
While Governor Wolf praised the legislation, he said that more needs to be done to further protect people from harm, including closing what’s been called the “Gun Show Loophole”, which allows long guns like AR-15’s and others to be sold in private sales without a State Police background check.
