In Harrisburg this week, Senator Don White called on Governor Wolf to support legislation to limit the over-prescription of pain medications under the state’s Workers’ Compensation Program.
In April, Wolf vetoed White’s bill to address the problem, saying an Executive Order he issued would handle it, because it contained opioid prescription guidelines. But White says the Wolf Administration admits that its guidelines are unenforceable.
In a recent appearance on Indiana In the Morning on WCCS, White outlined the difference between the Workers’ Comp Program’s policies and everybody else, and said the governor is failing to address a very solvable problem. There’s a formula guiding the prescription of opioids for the general population, but not for Workers’ Comp.
On the same day as that interview, White sent a letter to Wolf, urging him to support a new bill to require the departments of Labor & Industry, Health, and Drug & Alcohol Programs to develop evidence-based prescription guidelines for Workers’ Comp cases. Wolf has not responded to the senator’s letter.
