The Marion Center school board accepted a bid for a renovation project and hired a new security officer.
At last month’s voting meeting, Superintendent Clint Weimer said the original bid advertisement for the fitness center expansion project was ill-timed. The project was rebid, and at Monday night’s meeting, the board accepted a bid from BCS Construction Company of Altoona in the amount of $36,608.
Weimer said the project, which includes removing a wall to open up more space in the fitness center, should be complete by the end of the year:
“We’re hoping to have it done before Christmas, hopefully by Thanksgiving. Our time frame says, the quotes on our bids, say it can happen pretty quickly.”
Weimer said the project is the first part of a larger plan, which includes adding a thruway in the cafeteria:
“If we can get the fitness center done, we can move some stuff out of other spaces. Basically, three micro-projects. The starting project is the fitness center. We need to get it done so the dominoes can fall into the other places.”
In other news, the board voted to hire Doug Snyder as a school security officer at a rate of 17 dollars per hour. Weimer said Snyder joins a team of four other officers, replacing one who had previously retired:
“We traditionally use retired police officers. Doug is a community member, and we’re excited that he’s retired and we’re grabbing him up!”
