The state yesterday announced new funding for 236 water and sewer system projects across the commonwealth. Two of them are in Indiana County.
The Central Indiana County Water Authority will receive $200,000 for the Neal Road Water Line Extension project.
The White Township Municipal Authority is in line for $100,000 for the Fulton Run Sewerage System.
Senator Don White says the grants will fund 5,200 feet of water lines and will help the Central Indiana County Water Authority both upgrade its system and reduce the financial burden to ratepayers. He says the Fulton Run project will enable the elimination of malfunctioning on-lot sewage systems. White says that project in particular has presented some unique challenges that have delayed its construction.
Those two projects combine with a previously approved $370,000 award for Indiana County Municipal Services to extend water lines on Cheese Run Road and Darlene Drive to make $670,000 for Indiana County projects under the program. The funds come from the state’s Small Water and Sewer Program, which collects money from impact fees generated by the Marcellus Shale drilling industry.
In addition to the $50 million approved for the Small Water and Sewer Program, the state approved $16.2 million for abandoned mine drainage abatement, flood mitigation, greenways, trails, and recreation, orphaned or abandoned well plugging, and watershed restoration and protection. There are no new Indiana County projects listed on that award list.
