The Marion Center School District has announced that air quality tests received yesterday afternoon have confirmed that it is safe for students and staff to return to school this week. Classes will resume at the W.A. McCreery Elementary and Rayne Elementary schools tomorrow.
Classes for the elementary students in the district were halted last week after mold was discovered at the McCreery school on September 7th. The Rayne school was closed so that the district’s elementary students could remain on the same schedule. Even though high school students also use McCreery, the high school remained in session last week because the HVAC system used in that part of the McCreery school is separate from the rest of the building, and the air quality was tested and deemed safe.
The cleaning and purification process concluded Saturday evening. The elementary teachers will return today to get their classrooms in order. Meanwhile a brief meeting will be held in the McCreery school library at 6 o’clock this evening for families interested in information on the steps the district took to remediate the mold issue and to visit their children’s classrooms.
