The following is the message sent out to Indiana Area School District parents and guardians in reference to a lockdown that occurred today in all district schools in response to an alleged threat.
Please be aware that we received concerning information about alleged actions of an individual toward our school community. Although there was not any immediate danger, we treated the matter very seriously.
We contacted the Pennsylvania State Police, Indiana Borough Police, and Gittings Protective Services – our school safety and security consultant – to assist us with the investigation into the matter. They responded promptly and professionally. We implemented established safety and security procedures including modified lockdowns at all of our schools as an additional precautionary measure.
We are pleased to inform you that our recent efforts to promote safety and security within our schools has helped greatly. As a result, we will dismiss students at regular times today at elementary and secondary levels. We thank you for your attention and apologize for any inconvenience to you. The safety of your children is our highest priority for you and your family.
Sincerely,
Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich
IASD Superintendent
