On this 17th anniversary of the September 11th attacks on America, IUP once again will hold its commemoration at the 9-11 memorial in the Oak Grove.
The program will be emceed by IUP’s Tedd Cogar, who had just come to the university shortly before the attacks and recalls that thousands of students filled the Oak Grove that day. He says they were brought together by their sense of community.
IUP lost three alumni in the World Trade Center attacks and today’s ceremony will again honor the memory of William Moskal, Donald Jones, and William Sugra. Cogar says the keynote speaker will be the Reverend Stephen Bouman, the executive director of the Congregational and Synodical Mission with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Bouman was in New York City on the day of the attacks, and ministered to the victims and emergency responders in the aftermath.
The program this morning begins at 8:30 and will include a moment of silence at 8:46, the moment the first plane hit the World Trade Center. IUP’s memorial includes a 13-foot remnant of one of the twin towers at the World Trade Center.
