The Marion Center Volunteer Fire Department announced Saturday that they are receiving two grants.
The AFG, or Assistance to Firefighters Grant, was awarded to the MCVFD in the amount $10,175. According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, the AFG funds will be put toward training all of its members for FF1 state certification.
The next grant, the Staffing For Adequate Fire and Emergency Response, or SAFER, is a regional grant throughout 45 departments, hosted by the Portage VFD. Funding from the $2.1 million SAFER will be put toward Recruitment & Retention, for the purpose of acquiring new members with benefits which include college reimbursement, life insurance, gear, travel expenses for training, and more.
