Today is the first day on the job for new State System of Higher Education Chancellor Daniel Greenstein. He replaces Karen Whitney, who has led the State System on an interim basis for the last year after the resignation of former Chancellor Frank Brogan.
Greenstein has been an education executive for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation since 2012, and previously held administrative positions in education, including at the University of California system.
In a recent appearance on Indiana In the Morning on WCCS, State System Spokesman Kenn Marshall said Greenstein brings a wealth of experience to the chancellor’s office. “He’s done a little bit of everything…he’s known very much as an innovator, as a change agent. Being that we’re involved in the system redesign right now where we’re looking at creating a top-tier university system for the future, I think he’s an ideal person to come in and lead that effort.”
Greenstein will begin, he says, by “listening and learning”, as he plans to tour all fourteen state-owned universities, starting at Millersville on September 18th. He is scheduled to be here in Indiana next month when the State System Board of Governors holds its fall meeting at IUP.
Greenstein will earn an annual salary of $380,000 as State System chancellor.
