The Blairsville-Saltsburg school board appointed a safety and security coordinator and approved the installation of a backflow prevention system at one of the district’s campuses.
As per Act 44, the board appointed Kirk Allmendinger, one of the district’s school police officers, to the position of Chief Security Officer by unanimous vote. Board president Rick Harper spoke to the position’s duties:
“… Advising us on how we can improve our security, and coordinating the other security officers.”
In other news, the board approved the installation by Joyce Plumbing Heating & AC of a double backflow prevention unit on the Blairsville campus, in the amount of $9991.79. The cost includes work at the middle-high school and the elementary, as well as a maintenance shed.
Other approved purchases include the replacement of lights at each campuses’ football field at a total cost of $3,200, and industrial sanitizing units for each school at $600 a piece, used for cleaning wrestling mats and other necessary areas.
Lastly, Marlene Joyce reported that the ADA ramps approved last month have been completed at Saltsburg, while the work at Saltsburg’s football stadium bathrooms is still in progress.
Harper offered a timeline for similar work at Blairsville’s stadium:
“We’re doing Saltsburg’s first because it’s like low-hanging fruit, it’s much easier to do because it’s not in as bad of shape as Blairsville, but we’re putting a plan together for the Blairsville one over winter and hopefully we’ll be able to tackle that next summer.”
