The Wolf Administration announced on Friday that the Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC) will receive funding to construct a workforce training hub for students from kindergarten through college, and it includes a concept once thought dead…the Challenger Learning Center.
ICTC was approved for a $750,000 grant to renovate and expand its facility to create a 25,000-square-foot workforce training hub that will include the addition of a satellite campus of the Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC) and the Central Allegheny Challenger Learning Center. It will include cross-programming, cross-certification, and other degree opportunities through WCCC, the Challenger ccenter, and IUP.
Senator Donald White says the project “…will provide students throughout Indiana County with new educational opportunities and help develop the skilled workforce that is so desperately needed throughout our region,” He said the funding “will allow the project to quickly move forward at no direct cost to ICTC, the Indiana County School Districts that send students there, and ultimately local taxpayers.”
The funding comes through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), which could provide future additional economic development.
