Police report two crashes, one involving an oversize load that collided with an overpass, and a single-vehicle crash.
The driver of a truck tractor is facing charges following a single-vehicle accident along Route 22 in East Wheatfield Township on Thursday. The truck, operated by a Penn Line driver named Matthew Johnson, was transporting an oversize load as he was traveling southbound on Route 22 at 1:23 PM. The height of the load struck the bridge abutment at the underpass of Route 403. According to a witness, about one foot of the boom of a machine the truck was transporting struck the overpass, falling off the truck and before being dragged along the roadway as the truck then began pulling over.
Johnson had a permit for the load, but is charged for violating the height of his permit allowance. The bridge abutment showed only minor scratches.
State police in Punxsutawney report a single vehicle accident along Fire Tower Road in Banks Township shortly before midnight on Wednesday. 20-year-old Justina Walker of Glen Campbell reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, driving off the right side of the roadway for about twenty feet before striking a tree. Walker was uninjured, but cited for failing to immediately report the accident to police.
