The Clymer fire department officially received three new specialized members at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
Janis Grove, Vernon Young, and Joshua Gelles were sworn in by Mayor Christina King as Clymer’s new fire police officers. Chief Jeff Gromley explained their duties:
“–On fire scenes, wrecks, all that, they would take care of traffic, whether we gotta stop it, move it, you know, one lane at a time or whatever.”
Gromley explained how the officers will be joining forces with a neighboring department:
“It’s in the works with Cherry Hill. We’re hoping to come together, bring their fire police, our fire police, and work as one unit to be able to help each other out.”
Gromley reported also during the meeting that the department is trading in their 1993 tanker for a 2018 Kenworth 3,000 gallon tanker by the end of September. Another engine will be used now also for rescue, while the department’s current rescue truck will be converted to an air/rehab truck.
