With school about to start, the Indiana Area and Marion Center school boards meet tonight, with agendas packed with items that will set the districts up for the coming academic year.
In addition to a number of personnel moves, the Indiana Area board is expected to focus on safety and security measures tonight. They’ll a motion naming Transportation and Safety Director Mike Travis to the position of “Safety and Security Coordinator”.
The board will also take up a motion for a new one-year contract with Gittings Protective Security for security and threat preparedness, and a motion to accept the Gittings Safety report that was presented last month. Another motion authorizes the district to apply for state grants for safety equipment, program, and school police officers. Yet another security-oriented motion would hire Armstrong Lock and Security , LLC to provide armed security officers for school days and for extra-curricular activities as necessary. And there is a motion on the agenda to provide armed security at the Junior High School.
Other items to be considered by the school board tonight are the approval of the superintendent goals and the evaluation mechanism for new Superintendent Michael Vuckovich, an agreement with the teachers’ union regarding Senior High cafeteria supervision, and a new four-year contract with district employees represented by AFSCME.
The Marion Center School Board will focus on personnel at their meeting, accepting the resignations of two staff members and filling a number of positions, including an Early Childhood teacher. The board will also consider the approval of the districts substitute list covering teachers, guest teachers, para-educators, nutritional, and custodial staffs. The board will also consider approval of the school bus driver and substitute list.
