The Pirates broke the game open with a five-run seventh inning as they rocked the Giants 10-5 in San Francisco last night.
Elias Diaz and Josh Bell hit back-to-back home runs and David Freese hit his 100th career homer for the Bucs. Streaking Adam Frazier had three more hits, batting leadoff. Ivan Nova worked six innings to get the win.
Game Two of the four-game series is tonight. It’s a 9:50 Airtime and a 10:15 first pitch by the Giant’s Derek Holland. Manager Clint Hurdle says he wants to give his entire rotation an extra day of rest, so the Bucs will call up Clay Holmes from Indianapolis to make the start. Holmes is 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA in four appearances with the Pirates, including two starts. He is 7-3 with a 3.30 ERA with Indy this year.
