Six fire companies managed to contain a house fire to a second-floor bedroom in New Florence yesterday afternoon, battling not only the fire and smoke, but the oppressive heat as well.
Six adults and a child were forced to find other housing after the blaze, which was described as electrical in origin. One New Florence firefighter suffered a slight hand injury and a family pet was killed. The home on 15th Street sustained substantial heat and water damage. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
Two Indiana County fire companies, from Clyde and Armagh-East Wheatfield, assisted New Florence, Bolivar, Fairfield, and Seward firefighters, and the Wilpen fire company supplied a tanker truck.
