Robert T. Jack, 91, of Indiana, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
He was born December 17, 1926, in Punxsutawney, to the late Harry T. and Margaret (Rowland) Jack.
Bob was a 1944 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and a 1950 graduate of Thiel College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, with active duty in Europe and the South Pacific aboard the attack cargo ship, the USS Duplin-AKA 87. He was employed at National Mine Service Company for 30 years when he retired in 1985, in the position of Corporate Treasurer. He then spent three years at the National Bank of the Commonwealth as manager of branch operations at the Downtown Indiana office and the Hadley Union office on the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus.
After 15 years of volunteer service with the Indiana County Chapter of the American Red Cross, he took a staff position with the Chapter, serving as the Assistant Director from 1989 to 1994. In further volunteer service, Bob was on the Board of Directors of Indiana Hospital from 1985 to 1995, serving as the board secretary in 1993 and the board treasurer in 1994-1995. He was on the board of the Visiting Nurses Association from 1996 to 2001 and was also on the United Way board for most of the 70’s and 80’s, serving as Campaign Manager in 1979 and President of the board in 1981. Bob was a past member of the Indiana Rotary Club, a life member of the John W. Jenks Lodge 534 F&A Masons at Punxsutawney and a life member of the Elks Lodge 301, also in Punxsutawney. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoying the racing first hand by traveling to many tracks around the country.
He is survived by three sons: Douglas Jack and wife Janie, of San Antonio, Texas; Steven Jack and wife Leanne, of Indiana; and Daniel Jack and wife Carolyn, of Indiana; seven grandchildren: Suzy, Michael, Amy, Stacy, Katie, and Kevin Jack, and Jack Fischer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Myrna L. (Depp) Jack, who he wed on August 10, 1951; and a brother, Dr. Phil R. Jack.
Friends and family will be received from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. Friday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana, with Pastor Doug Wolfe officiating. Interment will be in Smicksburg Cemetery.
