The Pirates topped the division-leading Cubs, 5-4, last night.
The Cubs blew a golden opportunity to take the lead in the ninth inning when Addison Russell attempted to stretch a double into a triple after knocking in the 4th run with no one out. Russell was initially called safe, but the Bucs appealed and Russell was called out for over sliding the bag.
Jameson Taillon was the winning pitcher, with Francisco Cervelli and Gregory Polanco homering.
Nick Kingham takes on Cole Hamels in his Cubs debut tonight. Pregame is at 6:40 p.m. on WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM.
The Bucs also made a splash on the trading market yesterday with two trades for pitchers. Chris Archer came over from Tampa Bay for Austin Meadows and Tyler Glasnow, with a player to be named later. Archer is a two-time All Star and has a 3-5 record with an ERA of 4.31 this season. In another move, the Pirates acquired closer Keone Kela from the Texas Rangers.
