Talks have quietly begun on a new contract for approximately 400 coaches at the fourteen State System of Higher Education universities. The current four-year deal was approved in 2016, and is set to expire on June 30th of next year.
The start of bargaining was announced by APSCUF, the faculty union at the State System schools. The coaches’ negotiation team held a short meeting yesterday to prepare for the start of talks.
The contract arrived at in 2016 included one-time lump sum payments for both full-time and part-time coaches, a three percent raise in pay for 2017, a 2.75 raise for 2018, and a 2.5 percent raise for 2019. The deal also includes additional merit-based raises awarded in July of 2017 and 2018.
No schedule has been announced for additional sessions. The APSCUF faculty contract also expires on June 30th of next year. Bargaining on a new deal is supposed to begin this summer, but no schedule has been announced.
