The Blairsville – Saltsburg school board voted in favor of updating some of the district’s facilities on both campuses. A list of substitutes, support staff, and supplemental staff was also approved.
Among the approved work on the grounds of both campuses, several projects focus on updating the Saltsburg campus and football stadium to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines.
At the Saltsburg football stadium, handicap bathroom stall doors will be installed at a cost of $10,900, as will a handicap parking pad at a cost of $13,500.
Superintendent Jeff Soles spoke to modernizing the stadium:
“It’s just an older stadium, and you know, public facility… just never taken care of, so we’re going to try to get that up to snuff.”
Soles said he hopes the work to be complete by the start of the football season.
At Saltsburg Elementary, a handicap sidewalk will be installed at a cost of $2,250. Also on the Saltsburg campus, two handicap ramps will be installed at a cost of $3,500.
The board also approved a new boiler for the Blairsville Field House at a cost of $4,500.
On items regarding personnel, the board approved three long-term substitutes, which includes a fourth teacher for Blairsville’s 3rd grade. The approved list also includes a campus substitute for Blairsville, district support staff for Saltsburg, and a girls varsity basketball coach.
