State Troopers will go undercover to help catch speeders in Indiana County.
State Police today announced the commencement of “Operation Yellowjacket” in Indiana County, with the main enforcement area being a construction zone on Route 422. Trooper Cliff Greenfield said that the State Trooper will conduct the enforcement effort from a PennDOT truck. A trooper would be in plainclothes in the truck, using radar technology to track the speed of drivers in the construction zones, and radio patrol cars surrounding the area alerting them to the offending drivers.
Greenfield said that this will be the first time that the operation will be run in Indiana County. It has been performed in other areas across the state and has been cited as a great success.
Another part of the enforcement effort will be the “Steer Clear” Law, which requires drivers approaching an emergency site to pass in a lane not adjacent to the emergency response area, or at a careful and prudent speed if it’s not possible to pass in a non-adjacent lane safely. The efforts are designed to reduce the number of injuries and deaths in work zones and at emergency scenes.
