The former CEO of Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School is expected to be sentenced today in Federal Court.
62-year-old Nick Trombetta was indicted by a grand jury in August of 2013 on eleven counts of tax fraud and conspiracy, and in August of 2016, he entered a guilty plea to conspiring to defraud the IRS. Trombetta embezzled $8 million from the school and saved some of the money for his retirement, and buy luxury items for himself, his family and his girlfriend. This included a twin-engine airplane and several homes.
Several others were involved in the embezzlement scheme, including his accountant, Neal Price, who police say would move money to companies that were controlled or created by Trombetta, and filing false income tax returns.
Sentencing will take place at 10:30 this morning at the federal courtroom in Pittsburgh.
